Good use of citizens’ data: “Data is a precious thing and will last longer than the systems
themselves,” Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the world wide web, said. With people producing more and
more data about themselves and cities becoming increasingly reliant on data for their smart city plans, it
is important to set the right political framework. In the upcoming EU data legislation, Eurocities
advocates for two principles: citizens should always be in control of their data, while city governments
should be able to use data for the public good.
